I vores samfund er herskerens politik over for de beherskede divida et impera, at sætte sorte op mod hvide, kvinder op mod mænd – ja (selv om det lyder som en vittighed) homoseksuelle imod heteroseksuelle! Det er de andres skyld, og jo mere man demonstrerer og provokerer, uddyber de kunstigt skabte konflikter, jo mere hellig er man!

Det sidste, den moderne hersker ønsker, er dialog eller – det værst tænkelige for en kapitalist – en solidarisk arbejderklasse. Derfor er das Opium des Volkes heller ikke længere religionen, der smager for meget af menneskelighed, men uddannelse.

Det er trods alt svært at solidarisere sig med en klasse, man desperat prøver at komme ud af! Resultatet er, at ”åndernes rige” bestormes af en ungdom, der aldrig har læst en bog, og som man troligt lukker ind, positiv forskelsbehandling af idioter og udskiftning af de jødiske professorer med et akademisk proletariat af nazistiske partisoldater, der er villige til at sværge på, at der er 71 køn, og at to og to er fem. Som Orwell skriver i ”1984”:

In the end, the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it.

Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy. The heresy of heresies was common sense.

And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four?

Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable – what then?

The implied objective of this line of thought is a nightmare world in which the Leader, or some ruling clique, controls not only the future, but the past. If the Leader says of such and such an event, It never happened” — well, it never happened.

If he says that “two and two are five” — well, two and two are five. This prospect frightens me much more than bombs – and, after our experiences of the last few years, that is not a frivolous statement.

Enhver kendsgerning kan ignoreres – og føre til censur og Berufsverbot – ved at postulere den som en påstand fremsat af en jøde eller hvid heteroseksuel mand. Der Vernunft ist die grösste Hure des Teufels, som Luther udtrykker det.
