The severed hand of a mummied devil-worshipper wreaks havoc in Mexico and the United States. No, it doesn’t make a lot of sense, but there’s a kind of logical progression to it that keeps you watching. Instead of merely crawling around, as these things tend to do, it possesses the living left hand of various people, conferring its powers to them, manifesting itself as anything from a lucky hand at the crap table to a deadly weapon, at the same time keeping a mind of its own. The movie loses a lot of steam at the halfway mark, but still manages to entertain. Enter Stuart Whitman as a priest, who expresses disbelief in the besieged, but admirably nonplussed Samantha Eggar, as his Irish brogue comes and goes. After hunting giant wabbits in NIGHT OF THE LEPUS (1972) I guess anyone can get confused. Along the way, people are smothered and cremated, digging themselves out of graves and engaging in car chases. Delivering a thrill a minute, it’s thoroughly enjoyable, in spite of a weak ending.
